Ubuntu has an inbuilt IM-Empathy, in which you can configure all your chat accounts like Gmail, Facebook,.. In it when I tried to configure my Facebook account it always gave an error that Failed to connect!!! Then I figured out how to get it working. In User-id part, just use your Facebook’s profile name. To find it out login to Facebook and click on Profile. In the address bar the last part will be your profile name. Now just enter the password and you can start chatting with your Facebook buddies..
